A more southern change of pace

The duo has now stepped up the pace, relative to our age of course. We had a couple of lazy days over the weekend in Toulouse, just letting our bodies catch up, watching a bit of Roland Garos tennis on TV and a bit of Toulouse rugby in the pub. Back into the city after being in forests is always a shock. More so this time as our central location meant we were just a few steps away from quite a number of homeless unfortunates, a few of the local ne'r do well types and the rubbish that gathers despite local cleaners.

But now armed with our Fiat we have covered more kms in the first couple of hours than we had over the walk as we head south east towards Nice and Corsica. And a couple of more tense conversations as we settled down the GPS, escaped from Toulouse and adopted new roles of driver and navigator.

We decided to go cross country through part of the Tarn and stopped for lunch in St Chinian.  Followed by a short re-visit to Pezenas for a break. We then joined the autoroute for the run past Sete, Montpellier and Nimes before getting to Uzes, one of our favourite places in this neck of the woods. It was very pleasant having our dinner in the central Place aux Herbes area of this small city in the balmy mid evening.

Uzes is quite a good spot for shopping and we duly obliged, even driving up to almost nearby Lussan for yet another ceramic bird purchase. Happy shopper.

Meanwhile the rest of the group indulged in theme of the day - couples. He loitered around searching for couples to snap. As this is often the way us tourists get around. He spent just a little of his day thinking about travelling duos, like us, who like to see some more of the world, with just that bit of independence.

And now as the weather is beginning to heat up, it was over 30 degrees today and expected to be in the high 30s by the end of the week, we ready ourselves for Corsica via Nice tomorrow, Wednesday.
